$200,000 Raised from this Year’s Baseball Bash
August 26, 2007 marked the second annual Brian’s Baseball Bash, hosted by Orioles’ second baseman Brian Roberts. The sold-out event took place at the ESPN Zone in Baltimore.

Roberts and his teammates signed autographs throughout the evening, as well as mingled with guests and patients of the University of Maryland Hospital for Children (UMHC).
Through ticket sales, sponsorships, and silent and live auction purchases, a net of $200,000 was raised from this year’s Baseball Bash.
The Child Life department has already purchased activity boards for the Intermediate Care Unit, making the hospital environment more appealing for young patients. Additionally, the funds have enabled Child Life to expand their Family Fun Nights from two nights per week to four.
Since having open-heart surgery at age 5, Roberts feels a deep connection to the children during his regular visits to UMHC.
“Brian Roberts is just an incredible person. He’s contributed so much for our kids,” says Dr. Steven J. Czinn, Chair, Department of Pediatrics.
