BRINGING HAPPINESS AND ACCEPTANCE TO THE CHILDREN THEY SERVE

Now in its sixth year, Camp Open Arms is a program that was brought to life by University of Maryland School of Medicine pediatric orthopaedist Dr. Joshua Abzug, who works with patients with limb differences.

Dr. Abzug imagined a place where children with limb differences such as brachial plexus birth palsy and congenital/traumatic deformities could experience a carefree camp experience – and Camp Open Arms began accepting campers in 2015.

The camp hosts a variety of activities for children, including hiking, water balloon fights, arts and crafts, and visits from local musicians, entertainers, and zoo animals. Camp Open Arms is not only a place of acceptance and happiness for children with limb differences, but also for their parents and loved ones, who build camaraderie and hope together.

Next summer, the 6th Annual Camp Open Arms will take place August 17-22, 2020 with an Olympics theme.

Camp Open Arms is made possible through generous donors and volunteers. Every November, the Deputies of the Cecil County Sheriff's Office raise funds for Camp Open Arms during No-Shave November. Last year, they raised over $26,000! These gifts will do so much for Camp Open Arms and the children it serves. Without this kind of philanthropy, the Camp Open Arms mission of helping children with limb differences gain strength, courage, and determination while building bonds within their community would not be possible.

How can you help?

Donations to Camp Open Arms are needed and appreciated to ensure that this inclusive, unique opportunity remains available for children who have limb challenges. Donate online today or join the team and register as a fundraiser (free) to set up a personal fundraising page.
