We know that Cancer never takes a break — so we won’t either — as The Maryland Half Marathon & 5K transitions to a New, Virtual Race for 2020.
Please know that this decision was our only viable option in good conscience to preserve the health and safety of our runners, volunteers, patients, staff, and spectators, as we all continue to manage the escalating COVID-19 crisis. For this reason, we are excited to introduce a new, virtual race — presented by St. John Properties — which will still allow you to run or walk in your own neighborhood or community in honor or memory of someone in your life who has faced cancer.
This virtual race is planned to take place on our originally scheduled date of May 30th but we appreciate your understanding as we adhere to COVID-19 guidelines should this date need to change. No matter what, we will host a virtual race this year and continue to share updates with you, and look forward to resuming with our traditional race format in 2021.
We hope you will continue to train and stay on track with your health and exercise goals while fundraising on behalf of the UMGCCC through your Maryland Half Marathon & 5K participant center. The funds raised will provide vital support and enable us to advance patient care and pursue groundbreaking research. As we know this can be challenging even under normal circumstances, we encourage you to follow the Maryland Half Marathon & 5K Facebook page, share your training journey with others, as well as learn some new fitness tips on how to stay active while practicing responsible social distancing.
All Registered Participants Will Receive:
An official race t-shirt, an electronic bib to self-print and electronic finishers medal, as well as resources to upload their race time and be recognized on our website. Participants who are registered by May 6th will be mailed their t-shirt by May 30th so they can wear it on their run or walk. Participants who register after May 6th will also be mailed a t-shirt but it is not guaranteed to arrive by May 30th.
Additionally in light of this change to a virtual race, 100% of your registration fee will be supporting the important work of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center in fighting cancer and is a fully tax deductible donation.
The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is grateful for your understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience this change may cause. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tara Ettinger in the UMMS Foundation office at 410-328-8530.
