About the University of Maryland Heart and Vascular Center

Heart surgeryLocally and nationally respected as a forerunner in medical and surgical techniques, the University of Maryland (UM) Heart and Vascular Center is a regional referral center for the most difficult cardiac cases. Our staff works closely with referring doctors to keep them abreast of each patient's treatment and progress.

The University of Maryland Heart and Vascular Center offers a variety of services, including the latest diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures for high-risk patients. We also place a strong emphasis on educating patients about heart-healthy lifestyles, including proper nutrition and exercise.

The Center handles all of the cardiac-related activities within the University of Maryland Medical Center. This includes all of the clinical services provided by the divisions of Cardiovascular Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. Faculty physicians also see patients at the Westminster Heart Clinic in Carroll County, Maryland.

As an academic medical center, all of the physicians are faculty members at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition to treating patients, we train future cardiologists and cardiac surgeons and conduct cutting-edge research and clinical trials to improve the treatment and care of all heart patients.

Heart and Vascular Center physicians' vast expertise, combined with the resources of the University of Maryland Medical Center, distinguish us as a first-rate, comprehensive center of excellence.
