Camp Open Arms

Now in its tenth year, Camp Open Arms is a program that was brought to life by University of Maryland School of Medicine pediatric orthopaedist Dr. Joshua Abzug, who works with patients with limb differences.

Dr. Abzug imagined a place where children with limb differences such as brachial plexus birth palsy and congenital/traumatic deformities could experience a carefree camp experience—and Camp Open Arms began accepting campers in 2015.

The camp hosts a variety of activities for children, including hiking, water balloon fights, arts and crafts, and visits from local musicians, entertainers, and zoo animals. Camp Open Arms is not only a place of acceptance and happiness for children with limb differences, but also for their parents and loved ones, who build camaraderie and hope together.

The 10th Annual Camp Open Arms will take place August 5-10, 2024. More information to come!

How can you help?

Camp Open Arms is funded solely by the generosity of those who recognize the need for such an experience. The impact of philanthropic gifts to this program is immediate: campers gain strength, courage, and determination while building friendships with newfound friends. Parents form an instant bond with other families, a bond that continues long after the camp time is over. Please do consider making this camp possible!

Donations to Camp Open Arms are needed and appreciated to ensure that this inclusive, unique opportunity remains available for children who have limb challenges. Donate online today. Or view our camp sponsorship opportunities.
